Directed by Mehrshad Ranjbar, the Iranian 13-minute flick tells the story of an old woman who has taken care of her sick husband for many years, but an incident disturbs the order of her life.
The cast list of the short film includes Maryam Nourafkan and Abbas Jalallou.
‘Talker’ has so far competed at several global events, including the Palencia International Film Festival in Spain, the Tampere Film Festival in Finland, the Osaka Asian Film Festival in Japan, and the Faludi International Film Festival and Photo Competition in Hungary, where it won the best short feature award.
The short also grabbed the Grand Prix at the Kyoto International Student Film & Video Festival in Japan and the best film award of student film competition at the Tirana International Film Festival in Albania.
“For its unique poetic film language, for its concise artistic choices and its great usage of its space, for how the film feeds the slow narrative force exclusively through powerful silent images to result in a beautiful mosaic of quotidian life of an old couple shot in a cinematic way,” the jury of the Tirana event wrote.
The SECIME is a cultural event that has been presenting to the public the cinematographic trends of the industry for 34 years.
Its objective is the creation, promotion, diffusion and recognition of the value of the short film, being also part of the qualifying festivals for the Goya awards, with a long historical journey of awards.
The 34th edition of the SECIME is slated for May 28-June 5, 2021.
